Artist Statement
My work explores concepts and contexts of womanhood and femininity largely using organic and Neolithic figurative female form. My work also examines the bonds and relationships between family members and lovers. A new body of work includes figurative abstraction.
Stone is my preferred medium due to naturally occurring pattern, inconsistency and flawing throughout the medium. These add to the contextualisation of each figure being unique in her characteristics, yet firmly based within the agelessness and solidity of stone.
I also explore relationships between modern industrial materials and ancient patriarchal art forms, influenced by Polynesian and Shona styles and which uses materials such as cement fondue and applied metal finishes. I am a Full (and actively participating) Member of the NSW Sculptors Society, and member of the Hornsby Art Society.
